Routine Bloodwork

Routine bloodwork may be recommended, based on age and lifestyle, to detect issues that cannot be found on physical examination. Blood tests check the function of organs prior to surgical procedures as well as screening for potential illness before physical symptoms appear. This includes illnesses such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Thyroid disease
  • Heartworm disease
  • Lyme disease exposure

Blood panels are often recommended for senior dogs and cats, or pets that are at risk for developing disease. Other candidates are animals that are on routine or daily medications other than heartworm medications. These tests can often catch early signs of disease, which allows us to treat them before they become a more serious problem.
