Ultrasound Imaging

At Veazie Veterinary Clinic we perform a variety of ultrasound examinations. Most do not require anesthesia. One type is a cardiac ultrasound. Dr. Cloutier usually performs these as part of a cardiac evaluation. The ultrasound provides:

  • image of the heart
  • visual record of it's rhythm of beats
  • the ability to listen as it is being observed.

Abdominal ultrasounds are mostly performed by Dr. McCaw and permit him to see inside the pets body without surgery. Some of the most commonly viewed organs are

  • liver
  • kidneys
  • spleen
  • bladder

It is possible to locate problems such as

  • blockages
  • tumors
  • malformations
  • stones
  • other abnormalities

We can also use the ultrasound to check for pregnancy!

Our machine has a CD burner so findings can be recorded and saved for comparisons or as references.

We also perform ultrasound guided biopsies. This anesthetic procedure has the advantage of being minimally invasive and thereby reducing the risks of complications. The patient is anesthetized or sedated and a needle is used to take a sample of the tissue or organ of concern. We then send the samples to a laboratory for histopathology.

The abdominal and cardiac ultrasound machineKerrie is one of our main abdominal ultrasound assistants and has developed a lot of knowledge about how to use the machine
