Radiology is a critical part of any veterinary clinic. We have well trained staff and very good equipment to take the best radiograph on the first try. Our digital x-ray machine allows us to see any view taken instantly. This helps reduce the amount of time patients spend in radiology, making for happier patients and clients. All radiographs that are taken here are kept on file so if additional x-rays need to be taken in the future they are available for comparison. For information on radiology safety click here.

Taking an xray of your pet's chest enables us to get a view of your pet's heart, lungs and pulmonary arteries & veins. The doctors check out the size and shape of a patient's heart, how clear the lungs look, the health of the veins and even the windpipe/esophagus.
A chest xray can help diagnose heart disease, asthma or other respiratory diseases, identify if a cancer has metastasized, and discover signs of arthritis in the neck and spine.

An x-ray of a patient's abdomen can help us find foreign bodies and tumors. We can also judge the size and appearance of organs like the kidneys and liver. We can see bladder or kidney stones. One of the fun things we can do is count puppies when we take pregnancy x-rays.
Counting puppies on a pregnancy exam is an inexact science! Typically we count skulls, or count the spines. In this case we could definitely see 7 or 8. We usually go by the number we guess and say plus or minus 1. In this case the actual number she had was 9 puppies.

We often have clients bring their pets in because they are limping. With our digital radiographs we are able to identify many causes of limping, from ruptured cruciate ligaments to arthritis and hip dysplasia.
X-rays also play an important role in orthopedic surgeries like fracture repairs or dislocations. After Dr. Cloutier has used surgical hardware to repair the bone, an x-ray is taken to insure that the position is correct, This way repairs or adjustments can be made before the patient is take off anesthesia.
This is an x-ray of a kitty with a broken tibia & fibula. He underwent surgical repair of the fracture and it doing great today!
We also have a digital dental x-ray that we use to take radiographs of pet's teeth. This allows us to diagnose problems with teeth before they become an issue. The dental x-ray can also be used to take pictures of cat's paws because they are so small.
