When asked what to have in a first aid kit we recommend it should include the following items:

• Gauze Sponges-clean sponges can be used for anything from wiping scrapes to stopping bleeding
• Triple Antibiotic Ointment-good general ointment for cuts and scrapes
• Hydrogen Peroxide-very good cleansing and disinfecting agent
• Ace Athletic Bandage-makeshift bandage material, great for stopping bleeding
• Eye Wash-to help flush out any noxious stimulus in the eyes, like skunk spray
• Sterile Nonabsorbent Pads-for a dressing while transporting you pet to the vet
• Generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine)-1 mg/lb every 6-8 hours for any allergic reaction (bee sting, spider bite). Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has trouble breathing, swallowing or has excessive swelling any where. They may need immediate emergency treatment.
• Hydro cortisone Acetate (1%)-cream for itching, rashes
• Bandage Scissors-to cut off any bandages
• Rectal Thermometer-left in for 2 minutes, regular temperature for a dog or cat is 100-102.5 degrees Fahrenheit
• Bitter Apple-this will keep your pet from licking and chewing wounds or bandages
• Medical Records-dates of last vaccinations, Rabies Certificate and any pertinent medical history, especially of chronic conditions
• Pet First Aid Book-we recommend the American Red Cross and the Humane Society of the United States book on Pet First Aid
