How To Brush Your Pets Teeth
Always start with a positive attitude! If you think you can, you are more likely to succeed. Keep reasonable expectations: It takes time and patience to create a habit. Make brushing teeth a pleasurable experience. Be persistent, always gentle, kind and loving. Start with a couple of teeth. You do not have to achieve perfection on the 1st day. Start out only brushing for 5-10 seconds on one side of the mouth. Increase to 5-10 seconds on two sides of the mouth. Eventually you should be able to brush for 30 seconds on all 4 sides (top, bottom, left and right). Start out brushing everyday to get into the routine. Breaking often and giving treats to encourage their good behavior is great! A great time to start is when your pet is calm. Early evening or after a nap are great times to catch your pet in a not so excited state. Do Not Use Human Toothpaste: it is not effective on the type of bacteria in your pet’s mouth. It also contains detergents that can cause gastric discomfort. |
